You can visit, contact as much as you want, buy them presents and shower them with love, from afar.. They are your parents and I’m going to venture that everything they’ve ever done for/to you is what they believe to be best for you. The thing is that as you grow up, only you know what’s best for you. Only you can decide. Only YOU know best. Be brave, be confident. Be you.

I’m disgusted with grandstanding pols who are now crying crocadile tears now that the bill has come due. If they really cared, they would have questioned the fairness of the irrevocable shift of education funding to earlier retirement back in 2008, as I did.

We all want the same things – nice homes, good schools, early retirement. We pick jobs based on trade-offs, pay vs benefits and security vs excitement etc. There is nothing more noble about choosing one trade off versus another.

Retirement – Its the same for men and women.
Men – Retired from work at office
Women – Retired from work at office

Men – Continue to build family future
Women – Continue to build family future

Men or Women – There is no complete retirement until the day they can have all of their day to day activities taken care of or no more needed – DEATH

However, there is financial retirement – which is whole different level of ball game. You do not hear or see the same case in rich peoples lives, they assigned the task away to others so they can enjoy the life. So people – its not the question of work retirement – it is the question of affordability and financial retirement.

    Good luck.

I’m so behind on my commenting, but I just love the book you showed A for Atticus – especially since my little girl is Harper Lee (author of To Kill a Mockingbird). I like names that are a bit offbeat, but a bit old-school too. Already mentioned Harper and my son is Sutter Reid. Love them! I also love the idea of using family names or traditions – as long as you don’t end up sticking your kid with something awful. Lee is a middle name amongst many in my family (male and female alike) so that is how Harper got it. My late grandfather’s name was Glenn which I don’t love for a first name and wanted to use as a middle name, but everything we put with ___ Glenn, sounded like a retirement home!

Not quite little guy. I have an HSA with a high deductible plan ($2,600). I’ve got about 20 times that amount in my HSA and I’m several years from the average retirement age.

Retirement give me a break!!! The stock markets will eventually bounce back so for many American far from retirement this is not an issue. If you are close to retirement I heard the statistic that the average 401k lost around 6k. If that broke your retirement then you have bigger problems!!!

Let's address the elephant in the room – the facade of funding our Medicare program. At this rate my retirement will go straight to paying Medicare!!!

It's interesting comparing the systems you have with ours. We are moving to a more 'personalised' system however the money is just not there to fund it appropriately. I suspect a lot of the systems teeter on the edges as a lot of people's unmet needs are not met and therefore can't draw funding away from the more cheaply available care.
I am very cynical because I see these wonderful progressions but with no money behind them, the local authorities will continue to drive out any personalised care with block contracts which are cheaper. If we really do move towards REAL personalised and individual care, the cost implications are massive and noone wants to confront this. It leaves an unhappy medium with care being cheapened and cheapened until the quality suffers considerably.
I am more minded that the different systems that exist, exist to cut costs and meet very broad needs and most critical needs rather than relate to individuals.

UAW members get cushy retirement packages and wonderful health care insurance, while those of us who did not work in the UAW help pay for them. I don't have a retirement plan. Many other taxpayers don't. If I stopped work tommorrow, I'm screwed. UAWers are set for life, with taxpayers bailing them out. If you think it is fair that I help pay for others' golden retirement plans while I have none myself, you are sicker than I first presumed.
